I was recently awarded Leverhulme Artist in Residence 2016. As part of this project, I am developing my research on British South Asian women’s working and domestic lives. I am focusing on women who arrived from the Indian subcontinent during the late 1960’s/70’s and have spent the majority of their working lives in Britain. The experiences of this generation is being explored in contrast with the lives of younger Asian women who are guided by their parents’ generation, yet strive to identify a position in a society with evolving cultural values.

As part of this project, I will also be running participatory workshops in art & cooking. Details here.

My application to the Leverhulme Trust was sponsored by Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, Dr David Bartram. The happiness and well-being of immigrants are the subjects of study which come under his expertise. I will be based between the University of Leicester and Attenborough Arts until December 2016.
